High Bay LED Lighting Questions in Indianapolis
What does a high bay LED retrofit cost?
The fixture is rarely the biggest line. Cost is driven by fixture count and mounting height, whether you need a lift or a boom for access, the condition of the existing circuits and whips, how much control wiring you add, and whether the work has to happen at night. Utility rebates can offset part of it. We quote after a photometric layout, not from a fixture count alone.
How many high bay fixtures does my warehouse need?
That comes out of the photometric model, not a rule of thumb. It depends on ceiling height, rack layout and aisle width, the reflectance of your walls and floor, and the foot candle level the work actually requires. A pick aisle and an open staging floor need very different answers. Send us a floor plan with ceiling heights and we will run the layout before quoting anything.
Can you install while the warehouse stays in operation?
Yes. Most high bay work we do in Indianapolis happens in a running building. We phase by aisle or by zone, coordinate lift paths with your forklift traffic, drop and re-energize circuits in small sections, and run nights or weekends where the aisle cannot be blocked during a shift. You get the phasing plan and the outage windows before the first fixture comes down.
Do LED high bays need controls, or is a switch enough?
A switch works, but controls are usually where the savings live. Occupancy sensors in aisles that see traffic a few times an hour, daylight harvesting under skylights, and zone scheduling all cut runtime without anyone thinking about it. Controls also let you keep low light in a dormant zone instead of choosing between full bright and dark. We scope them with the layout so the wiring is right the first time.
What happens to the old fixtures and lamps when they come down?
We take them out and handle the disposal. Metal halide, high pressure sodium and fluorescent lamps, along with the old ballasts, cannot go in your dumpster, so they leave the site with us and get recycled through the proper channel. We keep the disposal records too, since some utility rebate programs ask for proof before they pay out on a retrofit.
