How much does it cost to install access control?
Cost is driven by the number of openings, not the size of the building. Each door needs a reader, electrified hardware, a share of a power supply, a cable run and a controller port. After that, the variables are whether existing door hardware can be reused, whether cable pathways already exist above the ceiling, and whether you want cloud or on premise management. We quote per opening so you can phase it.
What are the 3 types of access control?
It depends which layer you mean, and the 2 answers are different. In access control software the 3 permission models are discretionary, mandatory and role based access control, and role based is what most commercial buildings use because permissions follow the job rather than the person. On the physical side, the 3 system types people usually mean are standalone locks, on premise controllers and cloud managed systems. We match the permission model to your headcount and turnover, and the system type to your door count and whether you have IT staff to run a server.
What are the 5 D's of physical security?
Deter, detect, deny, delay and defend. People often ask for the 5 D's of access control, but they describe physical security as a whole: signage and lighting deter, cameras and sensors detect, credentialed doors deny, hardened openings delay, and staff or responders defend. Access control does the deny and delay work, which is why it pairs so well with cameras and exterior lighting on the same project.
What is the best access control system?
There is no single best system, and any contractor who names a platform before walking your doors is selling inventory. The right choice depends on door count, how often people turn over, whether you have IT staff to run a server, whether you need several sites under a single login, and what door hardware you already own. We shortlist 2 or 3 platforms that fit and let you compare them.
What happens when an employee leaves or loses a badge?
You revoke that credential in the software and the door stops accepting it, right away on a networked system. We set your team up to add, edit and revoke badges before we leave the site, and the admin login belongs to you, not to us. No building should have to call a contractor to lock out a former employee. If you would rather we handle changes, we can do that too.
