What does a school security camera and access control system include?
Cameras at the entries, corridors, cafeteria, gym, parking areas and grounds, a secure entry vestibule with intercom and buzz in control at the front door, card or fob readers on the openings you want controlled, the door hardware and wiring behind them, and the switches, PoE budget and recorder that keep the whole thing running. We scope those pieces together, because a camera is only as good as the drop feeding it and a controlled door is only as good as the hardware on it.
How much do school security cameras cost?
It comes down to camera count, cable runs and what you already have. The drivers are how many openings and sight lines you need covered, distance from each camera back to the closet, whether existing cabling and switches can carry PoE, how much video retention you want, and how much of the install has to happen in a break window. We walk the campus and quote the whole system in writing.
Do you work with preschools and college campuses as well as K to 12 districts?
Yes, and the scope changes a lot between them. A preschool is usually one controlled entry, a small camera count and tight sight lines on the drop off area. A K to 12 building adds corridors, a cafeteria, a gym, bus loops and a vestibule the front office runs. A college campus is a multi building problem, with a fiber backbone between buildings and one credential that has to work everywhere. We walk the campus first and design to whichever of those you are.
Can you install over summer break without disrupting classes?
Yes, and that is when most of this work happens. We plan the campus in zones, pull cable and set conduit while the building is empty, and stage the cutover so the existing system stays live until the new one is tested. If the scope runs past the break, we finish the remaining areas on weekends and after hours to keep the work out of the school day wherever the schedule allows.
Can we keep the cameras we already have instead of replacing everything?
Often yes, and we inventory the existing system before we price anything. Cameras that still cover their area and put out a usable IP stream can stay on the new recorder, while failing units, analog holdovers and blind spots get replaced first. That lets a district spend where the coverage gap is, keep everything on a single system instead of 2, and expand in later budget years.
