Parking Lot Lighting Questions in Indianapolis
Why are some of our parking lot lights out and others fine?
Usually it is the fixture, the feeder or the control, and which one it is changes the fix. A single dark head is normally a driver or lamp. A whole row out points at a feeder, a splice in the base or a tripped circuit. Everything on all day means the photocell or timeclock. We trace it, tell you which it is and fix it.
Is it worth retrofitting parking lot lights to LED?
For most lots, yes. LED heads draw less power, last far longer than metal halide and put light where you want it instead of spilling it into the sky. The savings come from both the energy bill and the maintenance calls you stop making. Utility rebates can apply as well. We can look at your fixture count and current wattage and put real numbers to it.
Can you install new poles without tearing up the parking lot?
In most cases, yes. We bore under pavement rather than saw cutting where the run allows it, and we route new feeders along islands and landscape beds where we can. Where a cut is unavoidable, we keep it small, coordinate with your paving contractor and phase the work so sections of the lot stay open. You keep parking while the poles go in.
How fast can you get a dark parking lot back on?
That depends on what failed. A driver, lamp or photocell is usually a same visit fix once we are on site with the bucket truck. How do we know the new lighting will actually cover the lot?
We build a photometric layout before anything is ordered. It plots light levels across the pavement from your pole locations, mounting heights and the optics on each fixture, so you can see the dark corners, the drive aisles and the entrances before you buy. It also shows where light would spill onto a neighboring property, which we correct with shielding or a different distribution.
