EV Make-Ready Questions in Indianapolis
What does EV make-ready actually include?
Make-ready is everything electrical up to the charger. That covers the load study, any service or switchgear upgrade, the EV panel and feeders, trenching, conduit, pull boxes, concrete pads and bollards, plus the stub-ups at each stall. The chargers themselves can go in at the same time or later. Doing make-ready for future stalls now is what keeps the parking lot from being torn up twice.
Do we need a service upgrade to add EV chargers?
Sometimes, and a load study is how you find out. We look at your existing service size, your measured peak demand and the charger capacity you want, then compare. Many Indianapolis buildings have headroom for a first bank of Level 2 chargers with no upgrade at all. DC fast charging almost always needs new service or a transformer from the utility.
How long does EV charging infrastructure installation take in Indianapolis?
The electrical work is rarely the long pole. Trenching, conduit and panel work move quickly once the site is released, but utility service applications, transformer lead times and switchgear can stretch out for months. We file the utility request and order long lead gear early so the site work and the equipment land together instead of one waiting on the other.
Can you install chargers we already bought?
Yes. We install and commission Level 2 and DC fast chargers from the major manufacturers, and we are ChargePoint Certified if that is the hardware you picked. If you have not bought yet, tell us the vehicles, dwell time and stall count first, because the wrong charger choice usually shows up as an oversized service or a network you cannot manage.
Who handles service on the chargers after they are commissioned?
We do, and we would rather be the ones who installed them. After commissioning we can stay on for service calls, network and firmware issues that turn out to be electrical, breaker and connector replacements, and the lighting around the stalls. Hardware warranty claims run through the manufacturer, and we handle the labor side and the documentation those claims ask for.
